Over 50 Years of Calls That Work.

Knight & Hale was founded in 1972 by two of the most accomplished game callers in the country. What started as a passion for fooling wild turkeys and whitetail deer has grown into a lineup of 41 premium game calls covering every species, every call type, and every skill level. Every call is handmade in the U.S.A. and engineered to perform in the moments that matter most.

The lineup spans turkey calls and deer calls from entry-level options to the legendary Ol' Yeller™ series that has been bringing gobblers and bucks into range for decades. Whether you hunt the spring turkey season, the fall whitetail rut, or both, Knight & Hale has the calls to put more animals on the ground.

Turkey or Deer?

Knight & Hale builds calls for two seasons and two very different animals. The right starting point depends on what you hunt, when you hunt it, and how deep you want to go on your call selection.

  • Turkey hunters: The turkey calls lineup covers numerous calls across pot calls, box calls, diaphragms, push/pull calls, tube calls, locator calls, and strikers. If you’re getting started, the HD™ Long Range Hen Box Call arrives hand-tuned and pre-chalked. If you want the highest ceiling in tone and realism, start with the Moonshiner or Ol' Yeller™ SLA-TEK® pot calls. Pair your calls with a well-organized turkey vest to keep everything accessible in the field.
  • Deer hunters: The deer calls lineup covers grunt calls, rattle calls, and gravity bleat cans for every phase of the whitetail season. The Death Chamber handles everything from early-season contact grunts to peak-rut snort wheezes in a single call. Add the Pack Rack Rattling System for the pre-rut when fighting sounds pull in dominant bucks from distance.
  • All-season hunters: If you chase turkeys in the spring and whitetails in the fall, Knight & Hale covers both seasons from a single brand. Start with a turkey pot call and a box call for spring, then transition to a grunt call and a rattle bag for fall. The HD™ Grunter Deer Call and the Ultimate Rattle Bag are compact enough to keep in any pack year-round.
  • New to calling: Every Knight & Hale call ships with detailed technique instructions on its product page. For turkey hunting, the HD™ Cutter Push/Pull Call requires a single finger and is hand-tuned right out of the box. For deer, the gravity can bleats (Quick Doe Bleat and Nanny Doe Bleat) require no blowing and no technique beyond tipping the can.

FAQ

What kinds of game calls does Knight & Hale make?

Knight & Hale produces many different game calls across two species categories: turkey calls and deer calls. The turkey lineup includes pot calls, diaphragm mouth calls, and strikers. The deer lineup covers grunt calls, rattle systems, and gravity bleat cans. All calls are handmade in the U.S.A.

What is the difference between turkey calls and deer calls?

Turkey calls replicate the vocalizations wild turkeys use to communicate: yelps, clucks, purrs, cuts, gobbles, and cackles. Deer calls replicate the sounds whitetails make: grunts, bleats, snort wheezes, and antler rattling. The two categories are used in different seasons (spring for turkey, fall for deer) and require different techniques. Knight & Hale covers both in depth: see the turkey calls and deer calls pages for species-specific guidance.

Are Knight & Hale game calls made in the USA?

Yes. Virtually every Knight & Hale game call is handmade in the U.S.A. This is a core part of the brand’s identity dating back to its founding in 1972. From the premium pot calls like the Moonshiner to the HD™ Grunter Deer Call, the handmade label is printed on every product that earns it.

What is the Ol' Yeller series?

The Ol' Yeller series is Knight & Hale’s flagship line of calls, named for the distinctive tone that has been bringing in turkeys for decades. The series includes the Ol' Yeller™ SLA-TEK® Surface Pot Call with its proprietary ceramic striking surface, the Ol' Yeller™ Box Call with a yellowheart lid and mahogany body, and the Ol' Yeller™ Mouth Call. Each Ol' Yeller call is handmade and hand-tuned before it leaves the shop.

Which Knight & Hale calls are best for beginners?

For turkey hunting, the HD™ Cutter Push/Pull Call and the Ol' Yeller™ Box Call are the easiest entry points, requiring minimal technique to produce realistic sounds. For deer hunting, the Quick Doe Bleat and Nanny Doe Bleat gravity can calls require no blowing at all. Each product page includes step-by-step technique instructions.

What is SLA-TEK and what makes it different from slate or crystal?

SLA-TEK® is a proprietary ceramic striking surface developed exclusively for Knight & Hale. It produces a wide tonal range from clear, high-pitched yelps to the raspy sounds that fool pressured birds, and it holds up better in wet conditions than natural slate. The Ol' Yeller™ SLA-TEK® Surface Pot Call pairs this surface with a walnut pot and yellowheart striker. Crystal surfaces, used on the Moonshiner and HD™ Crystal Surface Pot Call, produce purer, sharper tones and are also weatherproof.

Can I use Knight & Hale calls for multiple species?

Yes. The VersaTube™ is the lone multi-species call in the lineup, producing turkey hen yelps, jake calls, and goose honks with its patent-pending rotatable lip-stop and interchangeable latex.

What locator calls does Knight & Hale offer and when should I use them?

Knight & Hale offers two turkey locator calls: the Crow Show Turkey Locator Call and the Hoot Extender Turkey Locator Call. Locator calls work by imitating a crow or owl to shock a gobbler into revealing his position without making him call-shy. Use the Hoot Extender pre-dawn to locate birds on the roost, and the Crow Show during mid-morning after fly-down. Once you know where a gobbler is, switch to a turkey call from the turkey calls lineup to work him in.

How should I store and care for my game calls between seasons?

Keep all calls clean, dry, and away from extreme heat. Diaphragm mouth calls should be rinsed with cold water after each use and stored flat in their case. Pot call striking surfaces need to be lightly scuffed before each use and kept free of skin oils. For deer calls like the HD™ Grunter and Death Chamber, wipe the mouthpiece clean after each hunt and store all calls in a scent-free bag to prevent odor contamination between seasons.

Does Knight & Hale offer a warranty on game calls?

Yes. Knight & Hale stands behind the quality and craftsmanship of their game calls. Full warranty terms and coverage details are available on the Warranty Information page. For specific product questions or to submit a warranty claim, contact the team through the customer service page.
