Robert's 6-point buck

November 8, 2006 was a big day for Robert Picken Sr. of Quebec, Canada. He sat in a ladder stand 20 feet up in a patch of maples, cedars and pine that provided him a good view of the surroundings. Things had been quiet a while when a deer snorted at him. He figured a deer had winded him, but after 10 minutes the deer was still snorting, and Pickens decided to take a chance. He pulled out his Knight & Hale EZ Grunt-Er and grunted at the deer. “I never thought for a moment that I’d lay my eyes on that deer,” he said. “ I know he smelled me because he was snorting constantly.” A minute went by before he heard the footsteps of an approaching deer. A big doe walked into the open 120 yards distant, but the snorting continued. He grabbed his call and grunted again. Almost immediately he heard approaching footsteps and finally the buck walked into the clearing at about 120 yards directly downwind. “Even though he smelled me, the combination of his curiosity and the authenticity of your grunt call brought him right to me,” Picken said. The buck’s field dress weight was 213 pounds.
