Hunter numbers are slowly declining over most the county. And, the number of small game hunters is dwindling at an alarming rate. These two facts are intertwined, because many current hunters started as youngsters searching the treetops and forest floors for bushytails. Squirrel and other small game hunting provide the foundation that spawns a love of hunting and the outdoors.
But when it comes to taking a youngster hunting, it’s often waterfowl or big game. Why not squirrel hunting? There’s more opportunity and plenty of action, and the end result is excellent table fare. Could it be a lack of 'excitement?'
'Squirrel hunting is still one of my favorite hunting sports,' said Harold Knight, 'and anytime you can call any species of game, it adds some excitement.'
